It’s that time of year again, where I feel the indisputable need to get organised and re: jig my life!
I suppose we’re automatically put in to this routine by society and starting school, college or University every September until we’re at an age where we need or want to get a proper full time career.
I’m in my last year of University now, which is fairly scary as I’ve decided to not do a MA (masters) either. So this really will be my last September of mid-year organisation. It’s almost like New Year, you may not be writing out resolutions but you’re definitely picking up your relaxed summer mode and putting it away until the chocolates come out at Christmas.
The next three months are meant to be productive… right? I’ve had a fairly relaxed summer, yes I’ve been doing some bar work but nothing excessively strenuous. I feel like my brain may have a bit of a shock heading back to University this semester.
With this in mind, I’ve been trying to reign in my relaxed self, and try to brace myself for the hard work ahead this year. This involves 3 key things:
1. Getting up at a reasonable time – unfortunately 12pm won’t cut it when I have 9am lectures to attend… and my body seriously needs time to adjust to that!
2. Recapping topics that I need to know for this year – I have my dissertation to write and getting back on focus can only be achieved by re-reading what I’m already meant to know!
3. Buy new shiny gadgets and stationery that will immediately make me feel happier and apparently organised (it’s a win win situation really).
OK so, in my quest for supreme organisation and a feeling of self-control I’ve been looking all over the internet and I have stumbled across a few brilliant things.
1. Who needs a regular pinboard when you can have one like this? I already have one at University, but who wants a plain one when you can have one shaped like an actual picture frame? Pretty cool non?
2. Every student should have a run-away alarm clock I personally think! This little device is brilliant, but I don’t know how long I could cope with having to get up from my slumber and chase a robotic device around my bedroom… Maybe a good idea but not sure about the investment potentials!
3. Who doesn’t need to remember to buy food every once in a while? Having notes where you can clearly see them are always a good idea when you have a lot on your mind!
4. If you have one thing, make sure it is an actual paper diary! Don’t rely on devices to remember dates/events for you – what if they crash? Better to have it written down I always say.
Now all I need to do is put this in to practice… Roll on 4th Year!
